1924-2005

Since starting in the real estate business in 1946, Barney sold, leased, developed and built millions of square feet of industrial and commercial buildings throughout the U.S. for many companies such as:

  • Armstrong Cork

  • AT&T

  • Borg-Warner

  • Coca-Cola

  • Contel

  • Ford Motor Co.

  • General Electric

  • National Steel

  • Southwestern Bell

  • Sunkist Growers

  • Sysco Foods

  • TRW, McCormick & Co.

Barney established B. A. Karbank & Co. in 1950, and served as its Chairman until his death in 2005. His many professional and business affiliations included:

  • Society of Industrial & Office Realtors® — former national Vice President

  • American Society of Real Estate Counselors — former Chairman of the Mid-Central Region

  • Real Estate Board of Kansas City

  • Institute of Real Estate Management — Certified Property Manager®

Barney also served on the Boards of Directors for: First Federal Bank of Kansas City; Chicago Title Insurance Co. (Kansas City division); Johnson County Mortgage Co.; CORFAC International® (Corporate Facilities Advisors); and served on the boards of many other financial and commercial enterprises. He was a member of the Kansas City, MO City Planning Commission and Board of Zoning Adjustment, and has been an officer and/or board member of many civic, philanthropic and religious organizations.

Olen F. Monsees
1940-2012

President, Karbank Real Estate Company

Olen joined Karbank Real Estate Company in 1969 and had been president since 1984, a position he held until his death in 2012. He was a licensed broker in Missouri and Kansas specializing in the sale and leasing of industrial properties. He held both Bachelor of Science in Economics and Master of Economics degrees from the University of Missouri.

Among the many projects on which he worked were the land acquisitions of the property for the Truman Sports Complex, the first cellular tower network in the Kansas City area, and an intermodal rail and trucking hub for the Norfolk Southern Railway. Later deals included work with LMV Automotive Systems, Patterson Dental, and Heartland Sheets.

Olen was a member of the Society of Industrial & Office Realtors® (former National District Vice President and 1988-89 President of the Western Missouri/Kansas Chapter), Northeast Industrial Association (former President), and Mizzou Alumni Association (Kansas City Chapter Board Member and 1987 Chapter President). He served on the Kansas City Area Development Council and as a Board Member of CORFAC International® and First Federal Bank. He was also a member of the Rotary, a community breakfast club, and several other religious, civic, and philanthropic organizations. He was honored with dozens of awards including Ingram’s Magazine’s Best Commercial Realtor and CoStar “Power Broker” awards, and was inducted into the Midwest Real Estate News® Midwest Commercial Real Estate Hall of Fame in 2012.
